New Scientist on the Canadian election

My favourite magazine, New Scientist, has just published some fascinating research related to who is telling more lies among the Canadian candidates in the election coming up next week. (Personally, I'm voting Liberal despite Martin.)

Yeah, I'm voting for Martin as well. I just know if Harper wins, the national anthem will be changed to the Imperial March from 'Empire'. Mark my words.

Yeah, I'm voting Martin as well, despite misgivings. I'm just afraid if Harper wins, the first thing he'll do is change the national anthem to the Imperial March.

Somehow, the results they got do not surprise me overmuch. Oddly enough, they reinforce my disinterest in trusting either of the Big Two of the moment, albeit for different reasons.

When asked by a journalist if he loved Canada, Stephen Harper couldn't come up with an answer. A good politician knows when the public wants to be lied to.

I'm voting liberal too.

Nice blog!

I cannot vote for a corrupt party like the Liberals, and I have my misgivings about the Conservatives (my primary concern is that, above all, Harper will dismantle the federal government and hand its powers to the provinces and Bay Street).

NDP here.

Thanks for the link, will check it out.

I'll make a plug... Check out the Election Mashup for a neat map showing all the ridings color coded by who's ahead in the Kweschun Polls.

Hi, Babbler. I'm an NDPer at heart, too, but they've got zero chance in my riding, sad to say, so I'm voting Liberal.

Hi Robert: Congrats on your rating and your site is really cool, have been watching this election in Canada with interest. American politics are so warped that they are hard to figure until you know who has the money as the formula for election to a large office in this country now goes like this - $=T.V.=election and who gets the media time and coverage gets the votes. It's hardly issues anymore as many Americans don't seem to follow issues very well. Hey if you get a chance come visit my newfer site.

*Snort*

Does The-Mustache-That-Walks-Like-A-Man (his Official Aboriginal Name) have a hope in hell of forming a government? I don't think so. So go ahead: Vote NDP. Another vote for corruption in politics. Not that I'm thrilled with the Tories or that I think they'll be any different but they're not nearly as entrenched.

Throw the evil bastards out every four years.

Liberal? Conservative? What is the point if you can't trust the man?

I'm not allowed to vote yet, but if I could my vote would go towards the Liberals. I think Harper has a hidden agenda and when he gets into the main seat, it is over for Canada as we know it. What got me upset with Harper is how he betrayed Canada and went on American tv to bash us...moron! Only being Prime Minister for 18 months and with not a majority government, Martin is doing alright. You can't forget that we are the only G8 country to have a surplus, now that is good governing.

Well, let's see. The Bloq want to seperate.

The NDP are playing "crazy promise party" with their abolishing of manditory retirement and full legalization of pot.

Harper's promises are very enticing, but Faust thought he was getting a great deal when he sold his soul to the devil, too.

Then again, the Liberals have some obvious problems with their party. And their platform is very vague.

It's like there's no one to vote for.

The website has an interesting theory, but like most theories, whether you believe it or not depends on your bias.

On another note, I don't believe your reason for voting Liberal is sound. Just because NDP won't win first, doesn't mean it wouldn't hold power. Look at the last year. NDP was by far one of the most powerful parties. They have my vote, since they were essentially the only party to do anything for voters.

I guess all you people voting Liberal haven't been paying attention in the last 12 years or so. The billions wasted on Gun registry, the Sea King contract, the EI surplus, and the money the stole in the Ad scam. Plus they let criminals walk free with conditional sentacing and the Criminal Youth Justice Act. At least Harper wants to put bad guys in jail, where Martin thinks that banning hand guns will fix everything. By the way, do the Liberals even have an election platform? So far all I've heard is fear mongering and threats about voting conservatives.

How can any of you seriously consider voting Liberal? Martin and the rest of his party consistently change their tune to tell people whatever they want to hear.

Harper is not a scary guy, and despite the Liberal's best attempts to make people think he is one, most Canadians are finally starting to see it that way.

I doubt I'm changing any votes at this point, but don't let the Liberals continue to think they're entitled to your vote. They should have to earn it, and they haven't.

hey, I can't vote in this election, but if I could vote, I would vote for liberals... Harper scares me...

I hear you Rob. I was raised NDP, but sometimes strategic voting is called for. In my riding of Pickering-Ajax, the Tory candidate is exactly the type of person I don't want in office. Somebody else feels the same (Toronto Star letter): http://tinyurl.com/bo4fl

Also, it's wise to look at Harper's past: http://www.tranquileye.com/stockwell/harper.php

No matter how bad the Grits have fouled things up, I'm still more fearful for the Tories getting in. That's why I'm voting Liberal for the first time in a decade.

I can't understand why people say Harper is scary. What I find scary is the Liberal's pathetic stance on crime. Murder is now borderline legal in this country, as no one seems to go to jail anymore. What I also find scary is that the Liberals refuse to take responsibility for anything - not even their own campaign ads.

I don't know if Harper will be a good Prime Minister, but it has been proven that Martin is a terrible one, and should be removed.

These people do not deserve your vote.
