Sci Phi: The Journal of Science Fiction and Philosophy

Got a review copy of this fascinating new magazine. As the guy who advocates that our genre should really be called "philosophical fiction" -- Phi-Fi instead of Sci-Fi -- this is right up my street, and I'm looking forward to reading it. In the meantime, check it out.

Sci-Phi, I like this. i'm no expert of course. I used to get into a bit of Emanuel Kant. One of my favorite philosophers. Jean-Paul Sartre would leave me drained. I believe Kant gave us the origins of the word phenomena.

It’s nice to see a magazine with Philosophical elements in it. I wrote an experimental science fiction story a few years ago with a “philosophical theme.” I don’t think it’s good enough for that market and it’s on my crashed W98 system anyway. I think I might just let the story languish, maybe do something with it in a few years. There’s not enough Philosophy in science fiction these days and if there is it reads to over the top.

I haven’t seen the magazine yet Rob but do you know if their guidelines want traditional philosophy or home grown philosophical ideas or both?

This is great, Rob! I've actually long thought a magazine with this sort of theme would have a lot of potential, so I'm glad to see someone taking up the battle cry.

I'm a bit disappointed that it's available for download only, but that's just more motivation to get an e-book reader one of these days, I suppose.
