Flash Forward casting

We have our first actors cast for the TV series pilot based on my novel Flash Forward.

Two-time Tony Award-nominee Courtney B. Vance is best known for his six seasons as assistant district attorney Ron Carver on NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

And my wife Carolyn is over the moon, because Jack Davenport, whom she has had a big crush on since he starred as Steve in the British sitcom Coupling, is playing Lloyd Simcoe. Jack played Norrington in three Pirates of the Carribean movies, and recently starred in CBS's Swingtown.

The coverage from The Hollywood Reporter ("Vance, Davenport cast in ABC pilot: 'Flash Forward' is based on Sawyer's sci-fi novel") is here.

Filming of the pilot is scheduled to begin in nine weeks in Los Angeles, on February 19, 2009. More about the pilot is here.

Very cool, Rob! Great casting!

Do you have an invitation to visit the set?

Hi, Ed. Yes, indeed I do, and Carolyn and I planning on going down to LA in February for it. We won't stay for the whole shoot -- it's a three-week shoot -- but we'll be there for part of it.

Jack Davenport? Wonderful! Loved him in Swingtown and Pirates when I remembered who he was(those white wigs make people look completely different!). Looking forward to watching this as a viewer and wishing I was on it as an actress. Must wear more then one cap with some shows! Congrats again Rob.

Will they be setting the story as written - in Switzerland? Or have they moved the story location - and 3 weeks! I'm guessing 18 days. Not alot for a complex story like this, but sometimes it can make the process very creative. Do you have any insights on how they are treating the story?

Please tell Carolyn she's not the only one swooning! I first saw Jack Davenports in the Pirates movies, and then saw a photo of him in real life and was shocked -- he was smiling and gorgeous!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Smasharts, I do know what they're doing in terms of adapting the story, am serving as a consultant on the production, and have read the pilot script, which I think is terrific. But I'm not at liberty to discuss any details, sorry to say. :)

And three weeks is huge for a one-hour TV shoot; most TV hours are shot in six days. :)

There's a lot of info on this now online - just put "flash forward sawyer movie" into Google. Some really serious names are connected with this in various capacities. They're taking this series pretty seriously. It's probably a combination of the intriguing idea, and a SF series that, relative to most SF shows that require all sorts of special effects for space ships, alien worlds, etc., won't cost a fortune to produce. (Robert, correct me if I'm incorrect about the special effects budget.)
