Mindscan paperback a Canadian bestseller

To my delight, Janis Ackroyd, my wonderful publicist at H.B. Fenn, Tor's Canadian distributor, has just informed me that last week the mass-market paperback of Mindscan was number 10 on the BookManager New Releases bestsellers list, compiled by BookManager, the company that makes the point-of-sale software program used by the majority of independent bookstores in Canada. I was sandwiched between the romance novel Almost a Lady by Jane Feather at number 9 and the self-help book Life Strategies by Dr. Phil at number 11.

As a fellow Canuck, it's always cheered me to see how, well, egalitarian the Canadian best-seller lists are, compared to their more uniform American counterparts. On our lists we find sf mixed with romance mixed with high-end literary stuff -- proof, I guess, of either our eclectic tastes or our schizophrenic reading habits!

Hi Mr. Sawyer:
I learned today that you will be coming to Edmonton to do a reading here on the 29th of Jan. I hope to make it to the library to see you.

Congratulations! I haven't worked on my book since June, so it's good to hear from someone that's having some success. It just might inspire me to work on it some more. I'm not huge into sci-fi, but there are definitely some sci-fi elements in it, and I'm a fan of Asimov and Bradbury.

Hello Mr. Sawyer, I didn't realize you had a blog as well as a mailing list.

Little off topic, but Mindscan was brilliant. I saw echoes of The Terminal Experiment in the early chapters, but the novel became its own story. Very engaging and thought-provoking. Worth several happy-faces. :)

Oh, and I winced (appreciately) at the pun on Brian Hades's name. You captured his real-life counterpart well, and the intergration into your created world was seamless.

Hi Robert,

A link to your blog happened to be on the very front of Blogger.com under “Blogs Of Note”, and it somehow enticed me to click on it (ironically, I am rarely caught by advertising).

Initially, I found it so amusing that you happen to be so close to me, geographically. The proximity further compelled me to read your latest entries. I must say that you are making excellent use of blogging to promote yourself as an author.

I'm curious to check out your writing. Could you recommend any places to buy any of your books in the Niagara Region?

Regards,
Daniel Shakhmundes
