Worldcon day one

Lunch with Amy Sisson and her husband, NASA scientist Paul Abell. Sat with Mike Moscoe at the Analog/Asimov's table, hustling subscriptions, then at the Edge Press table, helping to sell J. Brian Clarke's The Alphanauts, for which I did the introduction. Moderated a very lively and entertaining panel entitled "You Are Responsible For Your Own Career." Spent some time hanging out in the green room with my Tor editor, David G. Hartwell. Went to a reception for the writers in the evening, and hung out in the SFWA suite for a while with Robert Silverberg, Allen Steele, and Joe and Gay Haldeman, then lots of party-hopping. All in all, L.A. Con IV is off to a great start.

Just another typical day in the life of a writer. Nice, very nice.

World Con sounds like a lot of fun. Your one writer on the go. Good thing you don't have cats :)

Btw, Guy haldeman..any relation to Joe Haldeman?

At the WOTF contest when you were with Larry Niven did he mention his recent Coast to Coast interview at all?

Gay (not Guy) Haldeman is Joe's wonderful wife.

Ooops sorry,
Damn eye floater. Happens to some of us at this age :-)

I just bought One of Joe Haldeman's books and the Amazon cover link is currently in my "books to read list." in my blog sidebar. I'll be getting to that next after I'm done reading the 2nd pass of Mindscan. I'm a slow reader, what can I say? That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;-)

Hi Robert,

Hustleing ANALOG subscriptions at the Worldcon must be an easy job since the current issue features part 2 of ROLLBACK by Robert J. Sawyer! The November issue just arrived in my mailbox and I so enjoyed part 1 of your serial in last month's issue that I've set aside my whole morning to enjoy reading part 2. This is the first serial I can remember *anticipating* in years; and if your ANALOG editors are there in LA with you, I hope you'll pass on to them my thanks for this excellent issue. I'll be writing them shortly in the traditional way to pass on the same sentiments.

Have a great convention, and I'll be redaing your further con reports with great interest. But not till I've finished part 2 of ROLLBACK!

All best,

Curt Phillips
