Shakespeare and Sulu to Flash Forward?
Today's The Hollywood Reporter says:
Joseph Fiennes is in negotiations for the lead in ABC's hot drama pilot "Flash Forward," eyed as a potential companion to "Lost."Joseph Feinnes, of course, played the Bard himself in one of my favourite movies, Shakespeare in Love, and John Cho is the new Sulu in the upcoming movie version of Star Trek, my all-time favourite franchise. So -- woohoo!
John Cho is in negotiations to co-star in the project, from David S. Goyer, Brannon Braga and ABC Studios.
Based on Robert J. Sawyer's sci-fi novel, "Flash" chronicles the chaos that ensues after everyone in the world passes out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and has a mysterious vision of the future that changes lives forever.

This is such cool news! I'm thrilled for you. FF is one of my favs of your books and I can't wait to see how it's adapted for TV. Sounds like they're getting some fabulous talent for the show.
One question: in the articles they keep talking about a "series penalty"--is this some weird Hollywood-speak where something that's actually good sounds bad? :)

Yes, a series penalty is a good thing. :) See, you don't tie up major-league talent like David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga to do a pilot on the off-chance that you might order some episodes of a subsequent series. To get them involved, ABC had to commit to pay them substantial fees (the penalty in question) if they DON'T order more episodes after the pilot. It's just another of the (many) indications of ABC's high level of commitment to this project.
Oh, that IS cool ;)
