Why aren't they waiting until the first season is complete before releasing the DVD set?
It's common now to release shows in half-season groups, to get them out faster; remember, shows have to compete with unauthorized downloads, and that means getting shows out on DVD quickly. Also, in our case, we want people to catch up before the show returns in March. (Most of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was released in half-season sets, too, as just one example.)
Is the show available on itunes? Seems like a good alternative.
Galactica pretty much set that particular DVD release standard, if memory serves...?
Dwight, for newer shows, yes. But I think the first to start doing that were the older Irwin Allen Shows, starting with the second season of LOST IN SPACE. :)
Zafri, yes, I believe the shows are available (legitimately) on iTunes, Hulu, and through ABC's own site.
Any plans to release on Blu-Ray? Now that I have a Blu-Ray player I like to buy all my movies and such in that format. It makes a real difference. I have Firefly on both Blu-Ray and DVD and the difference between them is astounding. (Yes, I'm a huge Firefly fan, even have a Blue Sun t-shirt)
I totally agree with you about Blu-ray, K.W. I'm sure the series will eventually be out in Blu-ray, but I haven't heard if the February 23 release will also be available in that format.
That makes sense. Apologies for my lack of DVD knowledge, I don't really watch any TV dramas, except for FlashForward, which I watch on the ABC site (as I have no TV service -- I cancelled it when I found myself watching TV instead of writing). So it will be good to see the show in high quality on DVD. I keep meaning to catch up on some of these other supposedly great dramas, on DVD, but nothing kills your writing like an unwatched TV series on DVD....
Will they be releasing the whole season as a set later on? The problem I have with half-season sets is that they charge you the same price as a full season (or only $5 less) and you have to pay it twice.
I honestly don't know, Jillian. But they did NOT do what you described with, for instance, Battlestar Galactica. List price for the first FlashForward set is US$29.55, and, of course, many retailers will sell for less.
