Very fast cameo at the hospital when they make cell phone contact!
Congratulations!!! Excellent TV series! I am glad to see a good SciFi series finally on TV. Even my wife, who is not a SciFi fan, enjoyed it a lot. Now she wants to read the book which I have too.
I can not wait to see more of the series.
Question: As the writer of the book, do you have any influence in how the episodes are filmed? Does the director ask for any recommendation from you?

If I knew that at such and such time, six months from now, I would be able to communicate with my self from six months before, I would type up a sheet with 5 or ten things that would give my 6 month earlier self an edge, then make sure I am concentrating on reading them at the appointed time.
No one seems to have done this, so the show should have a clever explanation to cover this logic hole.
The episode was amazing. It has shot up to the top of my list of shows to be sure to watch. Only one internal logic error to mention -- the hospital should have been stacked ten deep with patients ... making the worse overcrowding episodes of _ER_ look placid. I did not see gurneys with patients in the hall, I did not see any _MASH_ like triage outside of the hospital. No doctor would be leaving the hospital for the first 48 hours, certainly not to go home and sleep.
Hi, Matt. Scenes showing all of the sort of carnage you're referring to were, in fact, filmed; we had over 150 extras in the hospital shoot, most of them made up as badly maimed (including even a real amputee).
You DO in fact see some of this still in the final cut of the show, but it goes by very quickly; I'm just guessing here, but when the show ultimately got placed into an 8:00 p.m. timeslot (7:00 p.m. Central!), that a lot of that was cut out (we didn't know what timeslot we were going to get when we filmed the first episode).
But you're wrong to suggest that it's not there at all; it IS -- look at the scene in which Olivia Benford is talking on her cell phone with her husband; look at the scene in which Dylan Simcoe (the injured boy) is brought in; etc. etc.
(That said, you're also forgetting the almost total gridlock caused by the accidents on the roads -- the fact is, it would be very, very difficult for non-ambulatory patients to make it to the hospital that day.)

Btw, If it is going to be 10pm April 30 2010 in LA, wouldn't it be 6:00am May 1, 2010 in London?
Matt, nit-picking actually requires attention to detail. :) The date in question is April 29, not April 30, and the exact plot point you just brought up -- that it would therefore be eight hours later, and the next day, in London, is dealt with directly in the first episode, in the segment where FBI Agent Gough calls Fiona Banks at New Scotland Yard.
Exactly right. Definitely a senior moment on my part. But when you start double checking, you start learning things like Apr 29,2010 will be your 50th birthday. I'll be able to welcome you to the club at that time. There should be enough senior moments to share.

I really enjoyed watching the premiere of FlashForward. First, seeing Zach in the show made us nuts. Second it was cool seeing the scene in the hospital when Olivia and Bryce were working on the little boy in the hospital, as Andy and I were there with you watching it being filmed. I did catch you in the cameo on the cell phone in the hospital.
I hope the show continues with it's success. We are just so overwhelmed and proud. Thanks again for taking us around, and sending your book.

Yes, Zachary Knighton was EXCELLENT, wasn't he? You should be so proud of your boy! The range he shows in the first episode -- from the stuff on the pier to his big scene with Sonya -- is just amazing; he's a fabulous actor.
